Mohamed Daoud Ghacham, a Paramount clothing wholesaler who imports and sells clothing under the “Platini” brand, was sentenced to four years in prison.
Shocking Clothing Wholesaler
A federal investigation found the wholesaler evaded duties by intentionally misreporting the value of imported goods. Most of these imported clothing came from China, and he instructed the Chinese clothing supplier to issue two invoices with different values.
From 2011 to 2021, CHACHAM INC. used tampered invoices (underestimating the value of the goods) to clear customs and evaded a total of approximately $6.39 million in taxes.
Facing federal charges, Ghacham pleaded guilty in December to customs fraud by forging documents.
In addition, Ghacham Inc. also pleaded guilty to additional charges of dealing with drug traffickers and faces a fine of more than $4 million.
